About Therapy.
My favorite clients are the ones who show up for themself- not for me, their spouse, their kids, their friends, employers, or anyone else. They are tired/worn out/exhausted/(insert your own feelings or swear-y words here) and know that the only way to change is to show up and do their best to do the work, one step at a time. I find the best therapy to be that in which you are able to develop and meet your goals- which will undoubtedly look different for each individual, thus my desire to be flexible and competent in using a more eclectic approach.
By training, I’m a marriage and family therapist and I LOVE working within the context of understanding who you are and what you are influenced by, reacting towards or against those relationships and life experiences: in this respect, I’m initially what’s considered a systems therapist. Although my training is marriage and family therapy, it’s a bit of a misnomer because I work with individuals, couples, and even adult families, within the context of the system you come from and are currently in (be it through marriage, romantic/intimate partners, family, friendship, work, etc). I may also may incorporate solution focused, narrative, humanistic, and expressive therapies into our work.
Each session lasts around 50 minutes unless previously arranged (90 minute sessions are available). Video session are provided through a HIPAA secure telehealth video service (no app needed- just an internet connection, a device with browser and back facing camera capabilities, and a quiet space for sessions). Fees are comparable with other professionals in the area with similar training and education. I do not accept insurance but I do offer the option for provisional or contingency discounts for clients who demonstrate financial need during certain seasons of life. However at your discretion, you may choose to utilize a superbill if your insurance accepts such for out of network reimbursement. The number of sessions are dependent on a case by case basis including goal attainment, severity of issues, individual readiness.
Many of my clients have returned during different seasons of their lives or for occasional mental or relationship checkups. My clients come from many different cultures and walks of life and I am honored that so many have entrusted our time together to share some of their deepest frustrations, fears, hurts as well as dreams, victories, and celebrations.
About Liza.
I completed my undergraduate education at Tennessee Technological University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and a minor in Music. In May of 2009, I received a Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy at Richmont Graduate University (formerly Psychological Studies Institute), with an additional specialization in Sex Therapy through the Institute of Sexual Wholeness. I have additional advanced training and certification in the fields of Trauma and Relationships and couples (including Gottman Level 1).
My licensure supervision was with the ever savvy and ethical spitfire of a therapist, Vickie George, M.Ed., M.S., LMFT, LPC, CST. I have worked in private practice since 2008 within the metro Atlanta area.
I’m a recovering ISTJ and enneagram type 1 with a 9 wing. In my free time I enjoy reading a good book, drinking a generous cup (or more) of coffee, estate sale and antiquing, and trying to keep houseplants alive. I’m married to a self proclaimed “nerdy” ENFP husband, and we have two lively and spirited kiddos here on earth and three little saints.
